Nowadays nobody can imagine the holidays without holiday tree and holiday carols. However does anybody know where did those traditions come from?
The tradition of Christmas tree
The tradition of Christmas tree has its beginning in Germany. In the 16th century German Christians locate in their houses the decked trees. Somebody was built Christmas pyramids and decked them with lights and evergreens. Candles was hunged on a Christmas tree by Martin Luther in the 16th century too. Inspiration for candles appears during walk. Mentioned protestant reformer one winter evening noticed brillinace of stars twinkling between evergreens.
Holiday tree in USA
Small group of people know that majority of 19th century Americans found holiday trees as crankiness. One of the first record about Christmas tree in that region come from 1830s and say about settlers from German as a proprietors of holiday tree. Some say that the Pennsylvania German settlements decorated holiday trees as early as 1747. But, as late as the 1840s Christmas trees were treated as symbols of pagan and they were not accepted by majority of American citizens.
The tradition of carols
The word „carol” actually means dance or a song of joy and praise. Initially carols were pagan songs those were played at the celebration of Winter Solstice when people danced around stone circles. Christians inspired pagan customs and gave songs for Christian. In 129 the song „Angel’s Hymn” was popular and sung during Christmas service in Italy. Another Christmas song was written in 760 by Comas from Jerusalem. After that time many composers all over the Europe try to writting Christmas songs. But majority of holiday carols was sung in Latin and because of that a lots of Christians were not intrested in those things.
Holiday tree and Christmas songs are beautiful traditions those have to be keep from generation to generation. The knowledge about long history of Holiday tree and Christmas songs makes them more unusual.
